Reaching beyond the walls

“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19).

There are many obstacles today in society. There are many modes of thinking and mindsets about religion and even Christianity for that matter. How can we overcome these things in the world while we are in it but not of it? How do we touch a people who are so broken, hurt and have so much mistrust in any institutionalized religion or society. There is one simple answer that sometimes people have made complicated…LOVE.

When I was young there was this one song that has stuck with me for all of my life that tells me what it takes to be a Christian. One line in the chorus goes like this, “They will know we are Christians by our love, by our love”. We cannot reach into the underbelly or the darkness of society if we do not reach out the hand of love to those who desperately need it. We can not make disciples unless we draw them with the love of Christ.

We are not going to be able to transform nations without loving the people. People make nations. Family make nations. Men, women and children make nations. We strengthen nations by strengthening the family. The bond of the family is Christ-centered. Being Christ-centered is being Love.

This weekend, August 20 – 21, 2011, the church that I pastor will be part of what is called Rock the Lakes – Milwaukee. We are going to be a part of one of the greatest transformations this city has ever experienced. This event will minister to children, youth and young adults and the family as a whole. We are not going out there with our church logos or paraphernalia. We are going out there to reach those who have been forgotten, ignored, persecuted, abused and need to be set free through the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Once they give their lives to the Lord, we connect them with a local church in their area.

It’s not about growing a particular church organization, it is about the growth of the person and expanding the Church of Jesus Christ one soul at a time.

Finding Man

I looked around on Fathers Day and I wonder, where are the men in the church? My heart often grieves for the lack of men, male leadership, fathers in the House of God. In the beginning, God created man, first, in his image. He formed (yatsar – to form using a divine activity from a pre-ordain plan or divine purpose) out of dust (‘aphar – rubbish, debris, dust) of the ground (‘adamah – land, earth substance) and breathed (naphach – given life) into his nostrils the breath (neshamah – breath of God) of life; and man became a living soul (nephesh – living being) Genesis 2:7 NKJV. God created man from a divine activity based on a pre-ordained plan for a divine purpose out of debris of the earth and gave divine life to a living being called Adam. Men have a direct connection to our Maker, yet some men have abandoned that relationship with God because of sin. One may say that it was Eve’s fault because she gave the fruit to her husband, but it was the husband’s decision to give up his leadership or headship to follow without question. It is easy to lay blame on someone else without accepting responsibility for our actions.

This is not to say that those reasons are not valid, but at some point we must look at ourselves and say, we must change that path that we are on and begin to realign ourselves with God’s purpose. Since sin entered the world, it has broken relationship with our God, our Creator. For centuries it was understandable that men would be lawless naturally and spiritually because of that broken relationship. Now, since Christ has come and has bridged the gap between man and his Father, the tide has changed, access is there once again and we must find our way back to Father so that we can lead and father a generation that needs fathers in an astronomical way.

Damage has been done, but it is not too late for men to repent and come back to Father. We must commit ourselves to His plans so that we may lead according to His purpose.

A New Portal Has Opened

I am humbled and excited that I have a chance to speak to you in a different media. I am excited as to what God is doing in the life of His people. My hope is that this blog will make an impartation in your life as well as stir some meaningful discussion. I pray that as God pours His revelation through this portal, that lives will be changed, be transformed and the emergence of purpose awakens. I look forward to sharing the heart and the mind of God with you.
